These developers work full time in Godot
Jared speaks with 3 different developers, each with different methods to make Godot their full time income.
For this week, I wanted to speak with full time Godot developers who exist outside of the "we were lucky with a hit indie game" sphere. My aim was to learn about different day to day projects that are out there to keep up a consistent monthly income with Godot.
I took to Reddit and started a thread asking full time Godot devs what their income streams are to learn directly from the community. Below, I've highlighted the stories of 3 different developers. They all work with Godot full time, yet the work they do is completely different.
Firebelley
I'll start with probably the most famous respondent to anyone who has been in the Godot space for a while. Firebelley makes his living with Godot by working as an online course creator and indie developer.
Income comes primarily from his course offerings on udemy, where he currently has 3 Godot courses available.
The sales for these courses (at time of writing) are as follows:
- Create a Complete 2D Survivors Style Game in Godot 4 - 18,508 students
- Create a Complete 2D Platformer in the Godot Engine - 16,057 students
- Create a Complete Grid-Based Puzzle Game in Godot 4 with C# - 4,938 students
In addition to this, he runs a YouTube channel with devlogs and Godot tutorials boasting a very respectable 22.4k subscribers and over 1.2m views.
In addition to this, he recently released his long term Godot project Gunforged on Steam which made over $9000 profit in its first month. You can see him breakdown the journey in more detail here:
ChronoDK
ChronoDK is a full time Godot developer based in Denmark. He is employed by a company called Playtopia who create free to play online games for their network of free game portals.

He reports that the company has 9 employees and they have been building their web games using exclusively Godot for the last 6 years.
Their income is supported through advertising, offering paid VIP member perks to their players.
subsage
subsage's Godot income is made through a combination of smaller projects. Rather than having 1 main income stream he divides his time between many Godot focused projects. Right now, his income is based on the following:
- In personal game development tutoring using Godot, charging $25 to $40 per hour depending on booking type
- Supporting other Godot publishers with contract development support
- Solo projects such as minihunt (wishlist on Steam)
